The 1 Faculty 1 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Project

The University of Phayao is committed to continuously advancing its mission of area-based development under its philosophy “Wisdom for Community Empowerment,” emphasising the integration of knowledge from research and innovation into real-world practice to improve quality of life and build tangible sustainability for local communities. Over more than 16 years since its establishment, the university has proactively and continuously driven sustainable area-based development, starting with the “1 Faculty 1 Model” project, which evolved into the “1 Faculty 1 Success Symbol” project and then the “1 Faculty 1 Innovative Community” project in recent years. This has since been elevated into the 2025 “1 Faculty 1 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)” project, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The “1 Faculty 1 Sustainable Development Goal Project 2025” covers all 21 target areas, integrating knowledge from research and innovation with the collaboration of all university units to jointly solve problems and develop communities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals across all dimensions, including creating mechanisms to raise incomes, improving quality of life, and reducing social inequality.

Examples of target areas include:

- The Faculty of Science, University of Phayao, transferred scientific knowledge and an innovation for making compost from leaves without shredding to the community of Mae Na Ruea Sub-district, Mueang District, Phayao Province, through hands-on workshops, enabling residents to apply the knowledge to organic waste management and the use of local resources.
