Area Covered in Planted Vegetation

University of Phayao has developed its campus area focusing on the Green University strategy, which aims to create a university that integrates shaded environment, no pollution, and scenic landscape, aiming to make efficient use of resources, promote health, and be in harmony with nature to create a relaxing environment conducive to learning activities. According to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal SDG 15: Life on Land, the university will continue to focus on preserving the original environment, ecosystem, and nature in order to facilitate living and learning while also ensuring sustainable resource use and ecosystem. The university is also trying to restore degraded areas to their natural habitat.

The total planted vegetation area is 2,558,747 m² (33.35%), comprising 2,530,490 m² (30.67%) at the Phayao campus (main campus) and 28,257 m² (57.99%) at the Chiang Rai campus.

A Strategy to Increase Green Space within Campus and Surrounding Community

In recent years, while tree planting volunteer projects have become a popular activity among students and staff at the University of Phayao, the university's policy of promoting the development of green learning spaces outside classrooms — by improving the landscape around buildings to create "shared learning areas" with benches and swings under the shade of large trees — is another effective strategy for increasing green space.

The landscape around the building was improved to create a "shared learning space," with benches and swings placed under the shade of large trees in a pleasant and beautiful setting.
