Sustainable Development Goal 17 of 17

Overview

The School of Agriculture and Natural Resources is the first academic faculty established at the University of Phayao (28 June 2004). The school plays a key role in advancing research, innovation, and knowledge transfer to strengthen food security and sustainable agricultural development across Northern Thailand and local communities.

Policies and Plans

  • Pursuing Smart Agriculture to promote sustainable agricultural development at the local and regional levels.
  • Integrating knowledge in crop science, animal science, fisheries, and natural resource management to support the achievement of SDG 2: Zero Hunger.

Implementation

Teaching and Learning

  • Bachelor of Science Programme in Nutrition and Dietetics (School of Medical Sciences) prepares professional dietitians capable of providing nutritional consultation and developing healthy food products to promote public well-being.
  • Agriculture, Animal Science, Fisheries Technology and Innovation, and Food Safety Programmes provide students with interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills to support sustainable food production systems.

Research and Community Engagement

  • High-Quality Beef Cattle Development Project conducted in collaboration with the Provincial Livestock Office, the Phayao Beef Cattle Network, and the Chiang Mai Artificial Insemination Center to improve livestock productivity and increase farmers’ income.
  • Fisheries Research in Phayao Lake undertaken by the Fisheries Programme focuses on fish community structure, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of freshwater fishery resources.
  • Phayao Lake Encyclopedia serves as a knowledge database on fish species diversity and freshwater ecosystems, supporting research, conservation, and public education.
  • The 13th Phayao Research Conference (2024) under the theme “Frontier Area-Based Research for Sustainable Development Goals” featured research contributions related to food security, agriculture, and sustainable development.

Learning Centre

  • Sufficiency Economy Learning Center, University of Phayao, established in collaboration with the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary’s Office (Royal Volunteer 904 Programme), promotes sustainable living practices, food self-reliance, and community resilience.
