Collaboration with Niigata University on Older Adults’ Health Data
The University of Phayao promotes international collaboration in research and health data collection to support sustainable development, working with Niigata University, Japan, in the fields of dentistry and health sciences. On 20 February 2025, the University of Phayao welcomed a team of researchers from Niigata University to exchange knowledge, experience, and joint research approaches, laying the foundation for strengthening the academic collaboration network between the two institutions.
Collaboration between the faculties of dentistry of both universities has taken the form of a three-year longitudinal research project entitled “Effects of Frailty, Oral Hypofunction, and Health of Older Adults in the Pre-Frail Group: A 3-Year Longitudinal Study.” The research team conducted fieldwork at 5 sub-district health promoting hospitals in Mueang Phayao District to collect follow-up data from older adult volunteers in the second year, assessing changes in oral health, frailty, and quality of life, and analysing the relationship between oral health and overall health.
This work reflects the university’s participation in collecting and evaluating data through international collaboration, with the aim of using the resulting database and empirical evidence to develop models for health promotion, prevention, and care for older adults that are suited to the community context.
